Ventura Yacht Club hosts youths in both the Green and Champs Fleet in the Optimist class of boat, visiting multiple yacht clubs for the SCYYRA Carrie Series​ and for the Harken Challenge Series​. Please read our program guides for more information on these teams.

Opti Green Fleet Race Team

The Optimist Green Fleet is a beginner-level racing program developed to maximize on-the-water learning both during practices and regattas. Building on basic sailing techniques while introducing students to sailboat racing, the Optimist Green Fleet takes students who have shown an interest--and commitment--in the sport of sailing, and places them in competitions to continue honing their skills!

Opti Champs Fleet Race Team

The Optimist Champs Fleet is the next step in the chain of youth racing. Students who have an understanding of the mechanics of upwind and downwind sailing, fleet tactics and strategies, and of the Racing Rules of Sailing, train to sail in next-level racing series. Champs-level Opti sailors should own a race-ready, competition-level boat and equipment, though charter options are available for those who do not.
